Anne Frank

Annelies Marie Frank was born on June 12, 1929 in Frankfurt, Weimer Republic and died on February, 1945 at the age of fifteen in Bergen-Belsen concentration camp, Lower Saxony, Nazi Germany. She's famous because she wrote a diary where she told about her experence during the holocaust and the German occupation of the Netherlands in World War II.

After years living in Germany, Annie and her family moved to Amsterdam in the early 1930s when the Nazis gained control over Germany. They were happy again but by May 1940, the were trapped in Amsterdam and the persecutions of the Jewish population increased so, the Frankfurt family and four other people went into hiding in some concealed rooms behind a bookcase in the building where Anne's father worked.

In August 1944, the group was betrayed and transported to Auscwitz concentration camp. Anne and her sister, Margot, were tranferred to Bergen-Belsen concentration camp, where they died (probably of typhus) in February or March 1945, just few weeks before the camp was liberated in April by the British army.

I think Anne Frank is one of the most important women in history because thanks to her diary, we can know about the horrible things that the Nazis did to these people...
